Vermont – Dense fog hangs low over Burlington this morning, with visibility reduced and damp pavement already forming a slick start for drivers across Chittenden County.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility sits near 5 miles with temperatures at 27°F, creating a cold, misty setup that slowly improves by midday as clouds break and highs approach 39°F. Roads may stay damp early, especially along I-89 and Route 7, so allow extra stopping distance through the late morning hours.

Conditions stabilize briefly into midweek with partly sunny skies and highs near 42°F. However, changes begin to build by late Wednesday night as moisture returns. Showers develop after midnight, and temperatures hover near 32°F, a key threshold that could trigger brief icy patches on untreated surfaces.

By Thursday afternoon, rain chances climb to 40% with a noticeable warmup to 53°F. Wet roads will dominate the daytime hours. The bigger shift arrives by early Friday morning, when colder air rushes back in. Rain transitions to a rain-snow mix, then scattered snow showers as temperatures fall to near 32°F.

This setup raises concern for flash-freezing in spots where water refreezes quickly, especially on bridges and elevated roadways. Gusty northwest winds up to 28 mph will add to the challenge, reducing visibility at times.

Looking ahead, calmer and brighter conditions return into the weekend, though mornings stay cold. A gradual warming trend develops early next week, reinforcing signs of spring across Vermont.
