Burlington, Vt. – A summerlike surge in temperatures will grip Vermont this week, with highs climbing into the upper 80s by Tuesday and peaking near 90 degrees in parts of the state by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, Springfield is forecast to hit 90°F on Wednesday, with temperatures statewide trending at least 15 degrees above Sunday’s cool and breezy start. Cities including Burlington, Montpelier, and St. Johnsbury could see highs between 86°F and 89°F through Thursday.

The dry, warm pattern will begin to shift late Thursday as humidity levels rise, increasing the risk of scattered showers and storms into Friday. While no severe weather is currently expected, residents should be prepared for changing outdoor plans and localized downpours.

Drivers and those working outside are advised to stay hydrated and limit sun exposure during peak heat hours, especially Wednesday afternoon when UV indexes will also be high.

This early June warm spell marks one of the hottest starts to the month in recent years. Additional updates will follow if storm threats or heat advisories are issued later this week.
