Travelers across Vermont should prepare for hazardous road conditions Tuesday morning as freezing rain is forecast to create icy surfaces. The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, highlighting the risk of slippery roads and sidewalks, especially along central and eastern Vermont, including areas near Interstate 89.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain could produce up to 0.10 inches of ice accumulation. The advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning, with conditions expected to improve by early afternoon. Motorists should allow extra time for travel and drive cautiously on untreated roads.
Looking ahead, Wednesday is expected to remain mostly dry with highs near 43°F, but Thanksgiving Day may bring a wintry mix of rain and snow in the morning, followed by snow showers Thursday evening. Ice accumulation is not expected Thursday, but slick roads are likely in higher elevations.
By Friday, light snow is forecast in the morning, tapering off by the afternoon. Temperatures will hover around 40°F, making for potentially challenging post-holiday travel.
Residents should stay updated on changing forecasts, particularly if planning Thanksgiving travel. Monitor local weather updates, and keep emergency kits ready if traveling during hazardous conditions.
