Rutland, VT – A flood warning is in effect for the Otter Creek at Center Rutland as water levels continue to rise. The creek is forecast to crest at 8 feet, causing significant flooding along several local roads and affecting travel in the area. The National Weather Service warns that low-lying sections of South Creek Road in Clarendon will be submerged between Walker Mountain Road and Wallingford, while additional roads in Rutland and Pittsford are at risk.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, flooding will also impact Elm Street, Depot Road, and Dorr Drive in Rutland, along with field flooding upstream to Pittsford. Areas downstream to Pittsford may also experience lowland flooding. The rising waters will continue through the evening, and levels are expected to begin to recede by mid-week.
Drivers should avoid affected areas and use alternate routes. Authorities recommend not driving through flooded areas, as water may be deeper than it appears. It is especially dangerous at night when floodwaters can be harder to identify. Motorists are also urged to stay clear of barricades and to not attempt to drive around flooded roads.
