Burlington, VT – A significant snowstorm will blanket parts of Vermont starting Tuesday afternoon, bringing challenging conditions to commuters. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts 4 to 6 inches of snowfall along the western slopes of the Adirondacks and Green Mountains.
According to the NWS, snow will begin developing Tuesday at 1 p.m. and continue steadily through Wednesday afternoon. The storm’s elevation-dependent nature means higher terrains will see the heaviest accumulations, while valleys may experience lighter amounts.
Travel may become treacherous, especially during the Tuesday evening commute. Officials urge drivers to allow extra travel time and remain cautious on slippery roads. Areas under a Winter Weather Advisory include much of northern Vermont, where visibility could drop below one mile during periods of heavy snow.
Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-20s during the snowfall, creating conditions ideal for snow accumulation. Winds will remain light, reducing the chance of blowing snow.
The snowstorm comes as Vermont transitions into a colder weather pattern following recent mild temperatures. Residents are advised to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and prepare for delays.
The system is expected to exit the region by late Wednesday afternoon, giving way to drier but frigid conditions for Thursday. Local officials recommend clearing sidewalks and driveways promptly to prevent ice buildup as temperatures drop further.
