Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across portions of New York and Vermont as freezing rain continues to impact the region. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, creating dangerous conditions on roads and sidewalks, especially along I-87 and other major routes.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will remain in place until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Residents in Saratoga, Warren, Washington, and Windham counties are urged to slow down and exercise caution during the morning commute. Slippery bridges and untreated roads may lead to delays and accidents. Temperatures are forecasted to rise later in the day, transitioning the freezing rain to regular rainfall, reducing ice-related hazards by afternoon.
Freezing rain is also expected to disrupt travel plans during the Thanksgiving week, with additional rain showers predicted through Thursday. With many preparing for holiday celebrations, travelers are advised to monitor road conditions via 511 and allow extra time for their trips.
The extended forecast shows clearing skies and improving conditions later this week. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 46°F. Thanksgiving Day, however, is forecast to be rainy with highs in the low 40s, so outdoor activities may need to be adjusted.
