Chicago, IL – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions across Illinois through early Thursday morning. Snowfall could reach up to 6 inches in some areas, making roadways slick and visibility poor.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 a.m. Thursday for central and northeast Illinois, including Chicago, Rockford, and Aurora. Strong winds may cause blowing snow, reducing visibility during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Thursday morning will see temperatures drop to a low of 17°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder. By the afternoon, skies will clear, but gusty winds up to 25 mph will keep conditions frigid.

Looking ahead to Valentine’s Weekend, another round of snow is possible Friday night into Saturday, with highs struggling to reach the mid-30s. A Hydrologic Outlook warns of ice formation on rivers due to prolonged cold.

Drivers should check road conditions before heading out at gettingaroundillinois.com. Prepare for slippery roads and limited visibility, and allow extra time for travel.
