Hastings, NE – A bitter cold snap grips south-central Nebraska as dangerously low wind chills persist and snow chances rise heading into the weekend. Residents should prepare for hazardous outdoor conditions and potential travel disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday, with wind chills as low as -25°F. Even light winds of 5-10 mph could make conditions dangerous for exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
By Thursday night into Friday, gusty southerly winds up to 25 mph will develop. While no snow is expected during this period, patchy blowing snow from earlier accumulation could create visibility issues.
Friday night brings a 50% chance of snow, with accumulations of less than half an inch possible. Saturday remains blustery with a 40% chance of snow, potentially impacting weekend plans. Temperatures will remain frigid, with highs struggling to reach the 20s and lows near 0°F.
Residents should bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and monitor forecasts for updates on snowfall potential into early next week.
