Salt Lake City, UT – A widespread winter weather advisory will take effect across Utah’s mountain regions starting Monday evening, with some areas forecast to receive up to 24 inches of snow by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the advisory begins at 6 p.m. Monday and continues through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Impacted areas include the Wasatch Mountains north and south of I-80, the Western Uinta Mountains, the Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, and the Central Mountains. Snow totals are expected to range between 6 and 12 inches, with upper elevations like the Upper Cottonwoods potentially seeing up to 2 feet.

Winter driving conditions are expected throughout the duration of the storm. Communities including Alta, Brighton, Scofield, Fish Lake, and Logan Summit should anticipate reduced visibility and slick roads, especially during morning and evening commutes.

The Utah Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for extra travel time, use winter tires, and check real-time conditions at udottraffic.utah.gov. Motorists heading through canyons and high-elevation routes should be especially cautious.

Residents are urged to prepare for potential delays and ensure emergency kits are stocked. The storm is expected to taper off Wednesday evening as temperatures begin to moderate.
