Brian Head, Utah – High-elevation travel in southern Utah could be slippery this morning as snow continues falling above 9,000 feet, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, issued by its Grand Junction office, areas like Brian Head and Alton may see an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow before midday. Drivers on SR-12—especially over high mountain passes—should be cautious during early morning hours when temperatures are coldest and road conditions most hazardous.
Though significant travel disruption isn’t expected during daylight hours, visibility may be reduced and slick spots are possible at higher altitudes. Outdoor enthusiasts should prepare for bursts of moderate to heavy snow through late morning, particularly in backcountry areas and high-elevation trails.
This spring snow is not unusual for Utah’s southern peaks, but visitors unfamiliar with May mountain weather should pack extra layers and check conditions before heading out.
The advisory remains active through 12 p.m. MDT. Additional updates may follow if snowfall persists or impacts increase.
