Salt Lake City, UT – A winter weather advisory has been issued for multiple mountain regions in Utah and Nevada, with heavy snowfall expected from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Utah’s Southern Mountains, including Alton and Brian Head, will receive between 6 and 12 inches of snow, with higher amounts possible in the Tushar Mountains. The advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
In northern Utah, the Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, and Central Mountains will also experience significant snowfall, with totals ranging from 6 to 12 inches. The advisory for these areas begins at 5 a.m. Monday and lasts until 11 a.m. Tuesday. Areas such as Alta, Brighton, Logan Summit, and Fish Lake may see even greater accumulations in higher elevations.
Meanwhile, in Nevada, the National Weather Service in Elko has issued an advisory for Northern and Southwest Elko counties, including Elko, Spring Creek, and Jarbidge. Snowfall is expected to range from 3 to 5 inches in lower areas and up to 10 inches over summits and passes. The advisory runs from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Travelers should prepare for hazardous road conditions, particularly on mountain passes and highways. The Utah Department of Transportation and Nevada road authorities recommend checking traffic updates at udottraffic.utah.gov and calling 511 for Nevada road conditions. Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry emergency supplies when traveling through affected areas.
