Salt Lake City, Utah – Scorching June heat will grip northern Utah Thursday as temperatures soar to 97°F, with a chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms across Salt Lake City and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service, a weak system could trigger storms after 2 p.m. Thursday, especially along the I-15 corridor. Although only a 20% chance, any storms that do develop may bring gusty winds and lightning to the valley. Winds will shift southwest around 7 mph, adding to fire danger and possible travel delays in higher elevations.

Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours and monitor local updates for lightning or wind advisories. Salt Lake City isn’t under an official heat advisory yet, but with a heat index approaching 100°F, vulnerable groups should take precautions. Drink water frequently, and limit use of heat-generating appliances in the afternoon.

Looking ahead, the heat continues through the weekend with sunny skies and highs in the mid-90s. Friday through Monday shows no significant storm activity, but dry conditions will elevate wildfire concerns in the Wasatch Front and beyond.
