Salt Lake City, UT – A cold system is bringing light snow across northern Utah, creating slick roads and freezing temperatures through Saturday morning. Residents in the Wasatch Front should brace for hazardous travel conditions, especially overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are expected to intensify Friday night, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible in valley locations. Higher elevations in the northern Wasatch and Uinta mountains may see locally heavier amounts. This could lead to reduced visibility and icy roads along I-15, I-80, and local highways.

Temperatures will remain frigid, with lows dropping to 21°F Friday night and just 14°F by Saturday night. Winds will range from 7 to 10 mph, potentially worsening visibility for drivers. Saturday’s high is forecast at 29°F, but conditions will improve as snow tapers off by mid-morning.

Looking ahead, Sunday brings mostly cloudy skies with a high of 31°F, while Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be sunny but colder, with a high of 26°F. Residents should bundle up as overnight lows early next week dip into the single digits.

If traveling this weekend, allow extra time, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, and stay updated on local road conditions at UDOT’s website.
