Salt Lake City, UT – Travel through Utah’s mountain corridors remains hazardous early Friday as lingering snow and strong wind gusts continue to impact visibility and road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday for the Wasatch Mountains and Western Uinta Mountains. Additional snowfall up to 2 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph .
Mountain routes including I-80 near Parleys Summit, Logan Summit, and the Mirror Lake Highway may see slick conditions and brief visibility drops, especially where gusty winds create blowing snow. Areas like Alta, Brighton, and Mantua could see intermittent snow showers through the early morning hours.
Although the heaviest snowfall occurred earlier, lingering lake-effect snow bands may continue to develop overnight, extending impacts into the morning commute.
Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and check UDOT traffic updates before heading into mountain passes. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after mid-morning, but additional advisories may be issued if snow showers persist.
