Salt Lake City, Utah – Utahns across central and northern parts of the state should brace for an unseasonably cold night, with temperatures plunging as low as 26°F and widespread freeze conditions expected through 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Freeze Warning is now in effect for the Sevier Valley, Cache Valley, Western Uinta Basin, and parts of Box Elder, Juab, Millard, Sanpete, and Beaver counties. A follow-up Freeze Watch will remain in place Monday evening through Tuesday morning, signaling the potential for a second night of dangerous cold.
Communities including Richfield, Logan, Delta, Cedar City, and Nephi are at risk for frost damage to crops, gardens, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Agricultural areas, particularly in Roosevelt, Fillmore, and Manti, could see growing season setbacks if precautions aren’t taken.
Residents are urged to cover tender vegetation, disconnect and drain outdoor hoses, and insulate exposed pipes. Gardeners should move potted plants indoors or cover them securely.
This late-season cold snap is not uncommon in Utah’s high valleys but serves as a sharp contrast to recent mild temperatures. Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday morning, with additional updates possible from the National Weather Service.
