Salt Lake City, UT – High winds are expected to sweep across northern and southwestern Utah beginning early Tuesday, bringing gusts up to 60 mph in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory that will remain in effect through noon Wednesday, urging residents and travelers to take precautions.
According to the NWS, the strongest winds will affect areas along I-15 from Layton to Bountiful and regions in Washington County, including Pine Valley and Bull Valley. Wind gusts may reach 55 to 60 mph, posing risks for high-profile vehicles, unsecured outdoor objects, and power lines. Blowing snow may create additional hazards, especially on snow-covered terrain.
Residents in affected areas should secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and decorations to prevent damage. Drivers are urged to avoid traveling in high-profile vehicles or trailers through wind-prone areas such as Legacy Parkway, Black Ridge Canyon, and Beaver Dam Mountains.
The five-day forecast for Salt Lake City shows mostly sunny skies Tuesday, with highs near 39°F and gusts up to 38 mph. Winds will ease by Wednesday afternoon, followed by calmer, partly cloudy conditions. By Thursday, the region will see highs of 35°F, with a gradual warming trend into the weekend.
