Watertown, NY — Freezing rain could disrupt Monday morning travel across New York’s Tug Hill region, with ice accumulation expected through 10 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday for counties east of Lake Ontario, including Lowville, Watertown, Croghan, and Highmarket. Light freezing rain is likely to cause slippery roads, especially in higher elevations and rural areas.

While ice totals are expected to remain under 0.10 inches, even minor accumulations can reduce traction and create hazardous driving conditions during the early commute. The Tug Hill Plateau, known for extreme winter weather, may see localized icing on untreated surfaces.

Rain and snow showers are expected to continue throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday. Areas such as Syracuse, Batavia, and Fulton are more likely to see rain or a wintry mix instead of icing.

Drivers should allow extra time for travel, reduce speeds, and be alert for slick patches, especially on bridges and overpasses. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates at weather.gov/buf and prepare for changing road conditions overnight into Monday morning.
