Marquette, MI – A shift to warmer weather is expected to bring rapid snowmelt and rain showers to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this weekend, with localized flooding risks by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, high pressure will dominate through Friday, bringing sunny skies and temperatures rising into the upper 50s inland and lower 40s elsewhere. By Saturday, highs could reach into the low 60s in the southern and western interior, further accelerating snowmelt across the region.

Showers are forecast to begin Saturday night, spreading west to east across the peninsula by Sunday morning. Rainfall and melting snow could lead to rising levels in rivers and streams, especially in areas with significant snowpack still on the ground.

Nighttime lows will stay above freezing, ranging from the mid-30s to mid-40s through the weekend. Monday will see continued rain chances, with highs ranging from the upper 40s to mid-50s across central and eastern Upper Michigan.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and avoid flooded roadways. Clear snow and debris from storm drains to reduce localized flooding, and consider relocating valuables from flood-prone basements.

More rain and mild conditions are expected to persist into early next week.
