La Crosse, Wisconsin – Damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes are likely across Wisconsin and Minnesota this evening as a dangerous line of severe thunderstorms sweeps the region. Cities from Minneapolis to La Crosse could see the most significant impacts between 7 p.m. and midnight, with road and travel disruptions expected.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Level 4 threat assessment covers much of southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, and western Wisconsin. Severe storms are expected to develop along and north of I-90, with a 60% chance of large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of a few strong tornadoes.

Residents in Mankato, Rochester, Eau Claire, and Albert Lea should stay weather aware and prepare to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued. Major highways—including I-90 and I-35—could see rapid weather changes, with power outages and downed trees possible through the night. Authorities recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts and being ready to seek shelter immediately.

Storm risks are expected to diminish after midnight, but additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms evolve. Stay tuned to local alerts and be prepared for rapid changes in weather conditions.
