Minneapolis, MN – The Upper Midwest is bracing for a dangerous Arctic blast this weekend, bringing extreme cold and lake-effect snow. Wind chills will drop as low as -30°F across Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Wisconsin, with temperatures struggling to reach above zero in many areas.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills will be the most severe early Saturday morning, potentially plunging to -40°F in exposed areas. Heavy snow, primarily affecting the Great Lakes region, could result in hazardous travel conditions through Sunday, especially along I-90 and I-94 corridors. Drivers are urged to prepare for reduced visibility and icy roads.

The bitter cold poses a significant risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Officials recommend wearing multiple layers and limiting time outdoors. Residents are also encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure pets are sheltered.

The extreme cold will persist into Sunday, but a slight warming trend is expected early next week. Temperatures may rise into the teens by Tuesday, though forecasters are monitoring another potential cold front for later in the week.
