Marquette, MI – Wet conditions continue across Upper Michigan this weekend, with rain and snow showers potentially disrupting travel near US-41. Saturday will bring scattered lake-effect snow showers, primarily to eastern areas, as temperatures hover between 34 and 42 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, the region experienced a record-breaking 3.09 inches of precipitation Thursday, marking the wettest November day on record for the area. Snowfall remains minimal, but lake-effect systems are expected to intensify Saturday night into Sunday. Travelers are advised to use caution as wet roads may become slick, particularly in areas prone to snowfall accumulation, like near Lake Superior.
Sunday’s high temperatures will reach 40 degrees, but colder air Sunday night will allow snow to mix with rain, creating hazardous driving conditions. Snow showers are expected to persist through Monday, bringing additional challenges for travelers on major routes, including M-28 and I-75.
Looking ahead, Thanksgiving week in Upper Michigan will see a mix of rain and snow, with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. By Monday evening, widespread snow showers could result in light accumulation, particularly inland. Thanksgiving Day itself is expected to be partly sunny with a chance of lingering flurries and highs near 34 degrees.
Residents should monitor updates as weather conditions may shift. Prepare vehicles with winter safety kits and adjust holiday travel plans if necessary.
