Marquette, Michigan – A stretch of sunny, dry SPRING weather may feel ideal across the Upper Peninsula, but it comes with a warning: fire danger. Conditions in Marquette and surrounding counties could spark wildfires through Tuesday due to low humidity, dry fuels, and light winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, borderline to elevated fire weather conditions are expected across the interior west on Sunday, with elevated risk continuing Monday and Tuesday for areas like Marquette, Baraga, Ontonagon, and Dickinson Counties. The alert specifically highlights concerns along corridors like US-41, where dry vegetation and clear skies could escalate fire starts.

Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning and to properly extinguish campfires, as fires could spread quickly under current weather patterns. No rain is expected through midweek, further increasing the risk.

Daytime highs will remain mild and sunny, peaking near 57°F Monday and warming to 62°F by Tuesday. Nights will stay relatively cool, with lows dipping into the 40s. Winds will stay light—under 10 mph—reducing but not eliminating fire risk.

While no fire weather watch or red flag warning is currently posted, conditions could warrant upgrades if trends persist. No spotter activation is expected at this time.
