Marquette, Michigan – Drivers and residents near M-28 in Harvey should prepare for possible river flooding through Wednesday evening as heavy rain and snowmelt swell the Chocolay River. Water could reach 9.5 feet—just shy of flood stage—by Wednesday afternoon, threatening low-lying roads and parking areas along Timber Lane.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Flood Advisory remains in effect for Marquette County through Wednesday due to elevated river levels. As of early Tuesday, the Chocolay River measured 7.5 feet. With melting snow and continued rainfall, the river is expected to rise rapidly, peaking just under the flood stage of 10 feet.

Flooding may begin near M-28 and Timber Lane, especially in parking lots and low areas toward the river’s mouth. Residents in affected areas should monitor alerts, avoid flooded roads, and have alternate routes ready. “Turn around, don’t drown,” NWS warns. Rising waters can quickly trap vehicles.

Showers are likely through Thursday, with a 60% chance on Wednesday and 50% overnight into Friday. Winds will shift from southeast to southwest midweek, and highs will hover in the upper 40s to low 50s.
