Marquette, Michigan – Scorching heat and fast-moving thunderstorms are expected to collide across Upper Michigan by Sunday afternoon, threatening to disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Marquette and nearby areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, scattered thunderstorms will intensify between 3 p.m. and sunset Sunday, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall. Showers will push west to east, potentially impacting travelers along US-41 and M-28 during peak return traffic from Fourth of July weekend activities.

With afternoon highs reaching near 86°F and humidity nearing 100%, heat safety remains critical ahead of the rain. Stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on elderly neighbors. After sunset, skies will gradually clear, making way for cooler, calmer conditions into Monday morning.

While no additional hazardous weather is expected from Monday through Friday, a weak storm system could bring isolated showers again Tuesday. The week ahead looks seasonably warm with highs in the low to mid-70s and mostly clear skies dominating midweek.
