Up to 9 Inches of Snow Expected as Dangerous Winter Storm Hits Kansas

Goodland, KS – A significant winter storm is expected to blanket northwest Kansas with heavy snow and ice through Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions and dangerously cold wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Goodland, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for Sheridan, Gove, Norton, and Graham Counties. Snow accumulations are forecasted to range from 4 to 9 inches in Sheridan and Gove Counties, while Norton and Graham Counties may see up to 9 inches. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are also expected.

Freezing fog and drizzle will persist through Saturday afternoon, with temperatures in the upper teens and low 20s. The precipitation is anticipated to transition to snow Saturday evening as temperatures drop further. Winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will create blowing snow and reduced visibility on Sunday morning. Wind chill values may plunge to 10 to 15 below zero.
