Jackson, KY – Snowfall is expected to blanket eastern Kentucky beginning Thursday afternoon, marking the region’s first measurable snow of the season. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the area, warning of hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS, snow will begin mixing with rain this afternoon before transitioning to steady snow by Thursday evening. Southeastern Kentucky could see accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with higher elevations receiving up to 5 inches. Snowfall is expected to taper off early Friday morning.

Travelers should prepare for slippery roads, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces. Precipitation will gradually change to rain by Friday afternoon, reducing lingering impacts. The NWS noted the potential for light freezing drizzle overnight but expects minimal additional effects.

Residents should monitor updates as conditions develop. Snowfall timing is projected to begin around 4 p.m. in northern areas, reaching southern counties by 8 p.m.

Be sure to exercise caution while traveling during the evening and overnight hours. Local officials encourage residents to check forecasts and plan ahead.
