Sacramento, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for Northern California until 10 p.m. Friday, with significant snowfall forecasted in the Sierra Nevada. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts 4 to 10 inches of snow above 5,500 feet, with higher accumulations possible at peak elevations.
According to NWS Sacramento, snow levels will drop from 5,000-6,000 feet Thursday to 3,500-4,500 feet Friday. Winds are expected to gust up to 35 mph, which could further reduce visibility and make travel hazardous.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate, with snow-covered roads, slick surfaces, and delays likely. Authorities warn that chain controls may be enforced in some areas. Travelers are encouraged to check quickmap.dot.ca.gov for the latest road conditions and to drive with caution in affected zones.
Residents and travelers are advised to monitor updates and prepare for winter weather precautions. Local forecasts can be accessed through the NWS website at weather.gov/sto.
