Houston, TX – A powerful system is expected to bring significant rainfall to South-Central and South Texas, including the Texas Gulf Coast, beginning Wednesday evening and continuing through Thursday, with flash flooding increasingly likely.

According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall has been issued for cities including Houston, Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Laredo. The heaviest precipitation is forecasted to occur between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Rainfall totals may reach 5 to 10 inches in localized areas, overwhelming drainage systems and causing dangerous flash flood conditions.

Numerous slow-moving thunderstorms and clusters of showers are expected to develop by late Wednesday, especially in areas already experiencing dry ground, which may increase runoff. Portions of Interstate 10, U.S. Route 59, and several coastal roadways could be affected.

Residents are urged to:

  • Stay alert to weather updates and flash flood warnings.
  • Avoid low-lying roads and flood-prone areas.
  • Never attempt to drive through flooded roads—Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Emergency responders and local authorities across impacted counties are preparing for rapid response, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as the system evolves.
