Washington, D.C. – A surge in temperatures is expected to hit the East Coast and Midwest over the coming days, with several regions forecast to experience above-normal warmth. The National Weather Service’s 6-10 day temperature outlook predicts higher-than-average temperatures stretching from May 14 to May 18, with temperatures rising across much of the eastern U.S.

According to the NWS, the most significant warming will occur from the Central Plains to the East Coast, including major cities such as New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., where highs could surpass typical mid-May values. These warmer conditions may extend as far as the Great Lakes region, while the Pacific Northwest will remain cooler than average, with drier conditions across most of the U.S.

For areas like Chicago and Detroit, the warm-up could bring highs in the upper 80s or even low 90s, making it feel like early summer by mid-week. In the Northeast, including cities like Boston and Philadelphia, temperatures will likely be 5-10°F above normal for this time of year, signaling an early taste of summer.

The dry conditions accompanying the heat may lead to increased fire risk, so residents are advised to stay hydrated and remain cautious when outdoors. No major precipitation is expected in the next week for these regions, further adding to the dry conditions.

Expect temperatures to stay elevated through next week, with further advisories likely if the warming trend continues. Stay tuned for updates from local weather authorities.
