Minneapolis, Minnesota – Minneapolis residents should brace for hazy skies and reduced air quality through Saturday night as smoke from regional wildfires drifts across the state, pushing into the Twin Cities by Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, areas of smoke will begin to settle over Minneapolis by late Friday and persist into Saturday. Winds gusting up to 25 mph could worsen visibility and elevate fire risks, especially in southern and central Minnesota. Daytime highs will climb to 85°F Saturday, with overnight lows near 60°F.

Air quality levels may dip into the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” range, particularly in urban areas. Residents with asthma, heart conditions, or respiratory issues are urged to limit outdoor activities. Southward-shifting winds may clear skies by Sunday, which is expected to be sunny with highs near 89°F.

Travelers should exercise caution on roads due to reduced visibility, especially early Saturday morning. Outdoor events may also be affected by poor air quality.

The smoky conditions are expected to clear by late Saturday night, but a new round of heat begins Monday, with highs nearing 93°F. More updates will follow if air quality alerts are issued.
