Minneapolis, Minnesota – A surge of dangerous storms threatens southern Minnesota on Monday, with the highest risk for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds stretching from Owatonna to the Twin Cities through the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a severe weather outlook is in effect for Monday, April 28, as a volatile weather pattern targets much of southern Minnesota. The greatest threat zone includes cities such as Rochester, Mankato, Albert Lea, and stretches into parts of western Wisconsin. The most hazardous conditions are expected after noon and could last well into the night.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing weather, especially if traveling along I-35 or Highway 14. Strong winds could down trees and power lines, while large hail may damage vehicles and roofs. Tornadoes, though less common for late April, remain possible in this setup. Emergency managers urge everyone to review severe weather plans, charge electronic devices, and identify safe shelter locations now.

Storms are likely to intensify quickly, so stay alert for updated warnings. Further advisories may be issued as Monday approaches, and threat levels could change as forecast models evolve. More updates are expected through the weekend.
