Minneapolis, Minnesota – Southern Minnesota could see over 2 inches of rainfall by Friday as a multi-day storm system pushes into the region starting Wednesday, bringing a period of active and potentially disruptive weather.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a brief warm-up early in the week will give way to cooler, wetter conditions by midweek. The heaviest rainfall is expected across southern Minnesota, with the potential for localized flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Areas at highest risk include Rochester, Mankato, Albert Lea, and along the I-90 corridor.

Rainfall rates may intensify late Wednesday night into Thursday, with thunderstorms embedded in the system. Commuters should plan for slower travel, especially during morning and evening drive times, as visibility could be reduced and roads may become slick. Residents are urged to clear storm drains, monitor NOAA alerts, and avoid driving through standing water.

After reaching highs in the low 80s Tuesday, temperatures will cool steadily into the low 70s by Friday. This shift follows a dry start to the week but marks the beginning of a wetter stretch that could persist into the weekend.

Additional watches or flood advisories may be issued later this week. Updates will continue as conditions evolve.
