Minneapolis, MN – Periods of heavy rain are expected to soak much of southern and central Minnesota starting late Wednesday morning and continuing through Thursday evening, with localized flooding possible, especially along rivers and low-lying roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, most locations will receive 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with isolated totals up to 4 inches likely across southern Minnesota, including Mankato, Albert Lea, and Rochester. The heaviest rainfall is expected Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening, with flash flooding possible in areas with poor drainage or saturated soils.

Rain chances in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Red Wing climb to 85–95% by Wednesday afternoon and remain high into Thursday. Thunderstorms may develop during this period, though the risk of severe weather remains low. Cities like Willmar, Fairmont, and Eau Claire also face elevated flood concerns due to rainfall rates and runoff.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and monitor local alerts. Residents are urged to clear storm drains, prepare for power outages, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.

The flood threat is expected to subside by early Friday, though showers could return late in the weekend.
