Minneapolis, Minnesota – Severe storms are set to slam the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota late Sunday night and continue through Monday evening, bringing a heightened risk of tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. Cities including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, and Mankato fall under a Level 3 risk, with the most dangerous weather likely Monday afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities, multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms could develop as early as late Sunday, ramping up into a main event by Monday. The region faces higher-than-normal confidence in a setup favoring numerous severe storms, with all hazards possible.
Residents in St. Cloud, Eau Claire, Albert Lea, and Red Wing should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially during peak travel hours. Widespread power outages, downed trees, and travel disruptions are possible on major roadways like I-94 and I-35. Authorities recommend charging devices, securing outdoor items, and having a safety plan in place ahead of time.
This severe weather threat marks one of the most significant outbreaks of the season for Minnesota. The risk zone includes much of the metro and extends across the border into western Wisconsin.
Severe weather warnings remain in effect through Monday night. Stay tuned to local alerts and be ready for additional updates as new rounds of storms develop.
