Minneapolis, MN – An Arctic front sweeping across Minnesota will bring snow, strong winds, and dangerously cold conditions starting Tuesday evening. Light snow accumulations up to one inch are forecast, creating slippery roads and hazardous conditions for Wednesday morning commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will develop overnight and taper off before dawn Wednesday. While snow totals remain low, gusty northwesterly winds reaching 40 mph will combine with plummeting temperatures to produce subzero wind chills. By Wednesday afternoon, “feels like” temperatures could drop as low as -20°F, posing risks of frostbite to exposed skin in minutes.

Drivers should exercise caution, especially along major routes like I-94, as slick conditions are likely during peak morning travel hours. Those heading out should layer up, keep emergency kits in their vehicles, and limit outdoor exposure.

The Arctic blast will persist through Thursday, with daytime highs struggling to reach double digits and nighttime lows dropping to near -10°F. Wind chills will remain dangerously cold, ranging between -15°F and -25°F.

Looking ahead, conditions will ease slightly by Friday, with temperatures rebounding into the teens. However, another snow system is forecast for late Friday into Saturday, which could add to already challenging road conditions.

Residents are urged to stay updated on local forecasts and prepare for the bitter cold. Officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring pets have adequate shelter from the freezing temperatures.
