Twin Cities, Minnesota – Temperatures across Minnesota will climb sharply into the upper 80s by Monday, with hazy skies from drifting wildfire smoke creating air quality concerns for some residents.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a warming trend will push highs to 81°F on Friday, rising to 89°F by Memorial Day. The brief burst of summer heat will be accompanied by periods of wildfire smoke filtering into the Upper Midwest from Canada, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

In Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding metro areas, outdoor plans may be impacted by smoky skies and elevated ozone levels. Sensitive groups—including children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions—are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor exertion. While no air quality alerts are currently in effect, conditions may fluctuate based on wind direction.

Across the state, cities like Mankato, Rochester, and Duluth will also experience above-normal temperatures through Monday. While the weekend will remain dry, rain chances increase late Monday night into Tuesday as a cold front moves in, bringing a return of showers and possible thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on changing air quality and prepare for heat by staying hydrated and avoiding midday sun. Rain and storm chances return to the forecast by early next week.
