Springfield, Mo. –Thunderstorms and rising river levels will challenge southwest Missouri on Tuesday, with gusty winds and brief downpours expected by midday.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, showers and a few thunderstorms will develop by early Tuesday afternoon and linger through at least 6 p.m. Rain chances peak between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., with isolated lightning and gusts as high as 23 mph possible along key routes like I-44 and Highway 60. While flooding isn’t expected from Tuesday’s rain alone, runoff from earlier storms continues to threaten rivers across the Missouri Ozarks.
Communities in Greene, Christian, Dallas, and Polk counties should monitor conditions closely, especially near low-lying roads and creeks. NWS officials say rainfall totals will be light, but ongoing river flooding remains a concern, particularly in areas impacted by weekend downpours. No spotter activation is planned as storms are expected to stay below severe levels.
Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy with calm conditions returning. Temperatures remain seasonable, with overnight lows near 53°F.
Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday bring drier air and warmer highs in the low 70s. Sunshine dominates by Friday and Saturday, when Springfield is expected to hit the low 80s — ushering in a proper summer feel heading into June.
