Illinois – A cold front is poised to shift weather patterns this Thanksgiving week, bringing a mix of rain, snow, and colder temperatures statewide.
Scattered showers will linger today, primarily east of I-55, as temperatures peak in the 50s before dropping sharply overnight into the 20s. Starting Tuesday night, Central Illinois residents along I-72 and I-70 should prepare for a rain-snow mix, with potential accumulations in localized heavier bands. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the highest impact will occur during early morning commutes Wednesday.
Today’s highs will range from 46 in Galesburg to 61 in Olney, with breezy conditions and patchy drizzle persisting in parts of the state. By Tuesday, temperatures will drop to the 30s and 40s, accompanied by increasing cloud cover. Rain is likely to start late Tuesday night, transitioning to snow north of I-72 before daybreak Wednesday.
Wednesday’s high will hover in the low 40s, with winds making conditions feel colder. The NWS expects minimal snow accumulation but warns of slippery roads, especially during peak travel hours. Thanksgiving Day will offer some relief with partly sunny skies and highs near 38, though lows will plunge to 20 degrees overnight.
Travelers should monitor road conditions and prepare for possible delays, particularly if heading south along I-55 or east along I-70. Keep an eye on updates as the weather could affect holiday plans.
