Charleston, West Virginia – Over an inch of rain is expected across parts of West Virginia, northeastern Kentucky, and southeastern Ohio through Wednesday, with isolated flooding possible in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, widespread rain began early Tuesday across the coalfields and will continue northward through the afternoon. Rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are likely across central and southern West Virginia, with localized totals higher than 1.6 inches in areas like Snowshoe and Summersville.

In Charleston, Huntington, and Flatwoods, drivers should anticipate slick roads and potential ponding during evening commutes. High water spots could emerge along secondary roads in Beckley, Logan, and Grayson, Kentucky, particularly where multiple rounds of rain overlap. Officials say the recent dry stretch will help reduce runoff, but areas with poor drainage remain vulnerable.

Emergency managers recommend avoiding flooded roadways, checking storm drains for debris, and preparing for slower travel. Power outages are not expected, but residents are urged to monitor alerts and charge devices ahead of time.

The heaviest rainfall is expected to taper off by Wednesday evening. More updates may follow if localized flooding or additional rain bands develop.
