Marquette, MI – Dense fog and icy conditions are creating hazards across Upper Michigan as the region faces a wet and foggy weekend. Travelers and residents should remain cautious as untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots may stay slick through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Friday, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less in some areas. Rain showers will begin late Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday, adding to already challenging travel conditions. The NWS warns that rainfall may mix with snow in western areas by Saturday morning, potentially causing further disruptions.

On Friday, high temperatures will range from 36 to 42 degrees, with rain spreading from south to north overnight. Patchy light rain and drizzle are forecast throughout the day, accompanied by locally dense fog in the central Upper Peninsula. Saturday morning will bring widespread rain, diminishing by afternoon, while temperatures drop to the mid-30s by nightfall.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers a brief reprieve with mostly dry and partly sunny conditions, but temperatures will remain chilly, peaking near 40 degrees. By New Year’s Day, expect a chance of light snow and highs in the upper 30s, signaling a potential return of winter weather.

Drivers should exercise caution, use headlights in low-visibility areas, and allow extra time for travel, especially on untreated roadways. Pedestrians are also advised to tread carefully on icy sidewalks and parking lots.
