Binghamton, NY – Central New York is bracing for significant snowfall as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Thursday afternoon. Lake effect snow is expected to bring accumulations of up to 12 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, Broome and Tioga counties could see up to 2 inches of additional snow overnight, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph creating areas of blowing snow. Northern portions of these counties will experience the heaviest snowfall, especially in higher elevations.
Further north, counties including Onondaga, Cortland, and Seneca may receive up to 5 inches by Wednesday morning, with additional accumulations expected through Thursday. Hazardous road conditions and low visibility are likely to impact travel, especially during commutes.
Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution on snow-covered roads. The New York Department of Transportation advises drivers to call 511 for real-time updates on road conditions.
