Moline, IL – A powerful winter storm is set to bring significant snowfall and hazardous travel to northern Missouri and central Illinois late Saturday through Sunday evening. The heaviest snowfalls, ranging from 4 to 8 inches, are expected along and south of Highway 34, creating treacherous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin after midnight tonight and intensify Sunday morning. Blowing and drifting snow will further reduce visibility, making travel along key routes such as Highway 34 and Interstate 80 potentially dangerous. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for delays or closures through Sunday night.

The storm will also bring strong winds, with gusts up to 25 mph, causing wind chills near zero. As the snow tapers off Sunday night, icy conditions will linger into Monday morning, impacting the start of the workweek.

Looking ahead, the Quad Cities region will see clearing skies Monday with highs near 26°F, followed by partly sunny conditions Tuesday and highs of 24°F. A colder trend will settle midweek, with temperatures dropping into the teens.

Travelers are advised to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and allow extra time for commutes through Monday. Stock emergency kits, check vehicle readiness, and stay off roads during peak storm hours if possible.

Stay informed on changing conditions, and check for updates on road closures or delays through local emergency management offices.
