Alexandria, LA – Tornadoes and damaging winds are expected across Louisiana on Sunday, as an intense storm system moves through the region. Central Louisiana, including Alexandria, faces an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather, with the greatest threats being tornadoes, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms will begin developing late Sunday morning in western Louisiana and intensify by the afternoon as they move eastward. The severe threat will peak between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the potential for fast-moving tornadoes and widespread damaging winds. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and identify a safe shelter location before the storms arrive.
Highs in Alexandria will reach 75°F Sunday, with heavy rain expected to bring one to three inches of accumulation. After the storms, temperatures will drop sharply. Monday will see highs only in the mid-40s, with lows plunging to 26°F.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm and monitor road conditions via Louisiana’s 511 system. Report hazardous conditions or reckless drivers to *LSP (*577). Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and ensure family members know where to shelter if tornado warnings are issued.
