Southeastern Alabama, Florida Panhandle, and Southwest Georgia – A tornado watch is in effect for portions of southeastern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia until 5 p.m. CDT today, as storm conditions develop across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert at 10:10 a.m., warning of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and isolated hail.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, conditions are favorable for strong storms capable of producing wind gusts of up to 70 mph and a couple of tornadoes. The watch area stretches across the region, including parts of the central Florida Peninsula, where thunderstorms are expected to intensify by afternoon.

The watch impacts areas approximately 50 miles east and west of a line stretching from 30 miles west northwest of Albany, Georgia, to 30 miles south of Panama City, Florida. This includes cities like Tallahassee, Panama City, and Albany. Local authorities and meteorologists are urging residents to remain vigilant and monitor the weather closely, as conditions can rapidly change.

In addition to the threat of tornadoes, isolated hail up to 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts could create hazardous conditions for travelers and those spending time outdoors. Residents should be prepared to seek shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued, and avoid non-essential travel through the afternoon.

The tornado watch remains in effect until 5 p.m. CDT, with further updates and potential warnings to follow as conditions evolve. Stay tuned for more weather information from local authorities.
