Shreveport, Louisiana – A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Louisiana and Texas until 9 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, as severe weather moves through the region. The watch includes nearly 3 million people across a broad area, raising concerns of potential tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch extends across a swath of eastern Texas and western Louisiana, including cities like Tyler, Shreveport, Nacogdoches, Lafayette, and Alexandria. A few tornadoes are likely to develop, along with hail that could reach up to 2 inches in diameter. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 75 mph in some areas.

In Louisiana, affected parishes include Lafayette, Calcasieu, and Caddo, while Texas counties such as Tyler, Jefferson, and Hardin are also included. Residents are urged to remain alert, especially in open areas and along roadways, where flying debris and sudden weather shifts could pose a risk to safety. Local authorities are advising individuals to stay indoors and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.

The threat is expected to persist throughout the afternoon and evening, with conditions improving as the system moves out of the area later tonight. However, additional warnings may be issued as the storm system progresses.

Prepare for the Storm:

  • Stay updated with weather alerts from local authorities.
  • Ensure your emergency kit is ready, including flashlights, batteries, and a portable charger.
  • If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in a basement or interior room on the lowest level of your home.
