Springfield, MO – A tornado watch has been issued for southeastern Kansas and parts of western Missouri until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Residents in affected areas, including Topeka, Kansas City, and St. Joseph, are advised to stay alert as storms could bring tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, conditions favor the development of tornadoes in the region. Severe thunderstorms may produce hail up to the size of ping-pong balls and wind gusts reaching 80 mph, creating hazardous conditions across the area. Approximately 2.9 million people, over 1,200 schools, and 91 hospitals fall within the watch zone.

The NWS urges residents to monitor weather updates and secure multiple ways to receive emergency warnings, such as mobile alerts and local radio. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in an interior room away from windows.

Stay weather aware and be prepared to act quickly if conditions worsen.
