Central and Eastern Georgia – 3:00 a.m. Friday – A tornado watch remains in effect for central and eastern Georgia early Friday morning as Hurricane Helene’s outer bands sweep through the region. The watch, issued by the National Weather Service, continues until 8:00 a.m., with several tornadoes still possible before dawn.
According to the NWS, areas from Vidalia to eastern Georgia are seeing strong thunderstorms, with supercells forming and increasing the tornado threat. Winds remain dangerous, reaching over 60 knots, particularly near the coast.
Residents should stay indoors and closely monitor weather alerts. If a tornado warning is issued, take shelter immediately. The severe weather is expected to continue throughout the early morning, with impacts also being felt in southern North Carolina and South Carolina.
