Southeast Alabama – Southeast Alabama residents should prepare for severe weather today, with isolated damaging winds and heavy rain expected through early Wednesday. Forecasts suggest rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 5 inches, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas, particularly near US-231 and US-431.
According to the National Weather Service, the greatest threat will be isolated damaging winds this afternoon through Wednesday morning, though brief tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Residents are urged to stay updated through alerts and warnings. Poor drainage areas and urban streets are most susceptible to flash flooding. Those driving along major highways, including US-84 and State Route 52, should exercise caution during heavy rain periods.
Overnight temperatures are expected to remain mild, with lows around 68 degrees. Showers and storms are likely to taper off by Wednesday morning. The extended forecast shows cooler, drier conditions arriving midweek, with highs near 56 degrees on Thursday and a sunny outlook for Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service recommends having multiple ways to receive warnings, such as weather radios or mobile alerts, and planning alternative routes in case of road closures. Avoid driving through flooded areas, and remember the safety rule: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
