Tornado Confirmed in Cocoa Beach During Hurricane Milton, Survey Reveals EF-1 Rating

Cocoa Beach, FL – A tornado struck Cocoa Beach during Hurricane Milton’s outer rainbands, leaving behind an EF-1 rated trail of destruction. The National Weather Service confirmed on Oct. 13 that the tornado hit on Wednesday, Oct. 9. It produced peak winds reaching 95 mph.

According to the NWS Melbourne office, the tornado touched down at 5:53 p.m. and lasted until 5:56 p.m. The storm traveled for one mile with a maximum width of 250 yards. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, but damage assessments are ongoing.

Survey teams continue to evaluate the full scope of the tornado’s impact. This is one of several tornadoes confirmed as Hurricane Milton passed over Florida. Additional tornadoes were reported in nearby areas, with some reaching EF-2 and EF-3 ratings. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
