Baltimore, MD – Residents in Maryland and the greater Washington, DC, area should prepare for hazardous weather on Thursday, as a strong storm system brings gusty winds and a mix of rain and snow. Winds are forecasted to reach up to 50 mph, with conditions expected to peak from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a wind advisory will be in effect for central Maryland, including Baltimore, Washington, and surrounding areas. Gusty winds are expected to disrupt travel, especially along major roadways like I-95, I-70, and I-270. Unsecured objects could blow away, and minor power outages may occur.

In addition, western counties like Allegany are under a blizzard warning, with heavy snowfall and reduced visibility expected through Thursday night. Drivers in these areas should exercise caution as whiteout conditions are possible.

The extended forecast offers a reprieve after Thursday. Friday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 37 degrees, though breezy conditions may persist. The weekend will warm slightly, with Saturday’s high reaching 43 degrees and Sunday’s topping out near 53 degrees under sunny skies.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during the advisory period. For updates, visit weather.gov.
